I went LIVE today on Instagram and then downloaded the video to put captions on it so I wanted to share it with you.
Politics is exhausting. A lot of us are feeling that deep in our bones, especially with today’s Senate vote on the Continuing Resolution. There is frustration, anxiety, and uncertainty. I feel it too. But here is what I keep reminding myself. We have done what we can.
We made the calls. We left the messages. We encouraged others to do the same. Now we have to let go of what we cannot control.
That does not mean we stop caring. It means we take care of ourselves so we can stay in the fight. Political chaos is designed to wear us down. If we are burned out, we cannot be effective.
So here is my challenge to you. Take a break. Step away from the doomscrolling. Move your body, even if it is just dancing in your kitchen for ten minutes. Watch something that lifts you up. (Did you hear Ted Lasso Season 4 is coming? They announced it today!) Hug your pet. Talk to a friend who gets it. These small things are not distractions. They are what keep us going.
I made a whole “menu” of Self-care suggestions in my previous post right here. Go check it out:
And while we are taking care of ourselves, we also need to recognize the people who are out there fighting for us. Some Democratic representatives are stepping up in ways that deserve more attention.
They are traveling to districts that are not their own, holding town halls, and meeting with voters who have been abandoned by their Republican representatives.
These Republicans are too afraid to face their constituents because they know their policies are unpopular. Rather than standing up and defending their positions, they are hiding. (as I would say in Spanish: son unas gallinas! 🐓🐓🐓)
Democratic representatives like Maxwell Frost and others are filling that void. They are showing up and listening to people who feel ignored. They are explaining what is at stake and making sure voters understand how Republican policies will impact them. They are also making it clear that Democrats are the ones fighting for everyday people. These efforts matter. They build trust. They help voters see who is actually working for them.
So here is my second challenge. If we want to win in 2025 and beyond, we need to support the fighters. When we see them taking action, we need to amplify their efforts. Share their videos, show up for their events, donate if you can, and let them know their work is appreciated.
Politics is hard, and the people doing the right thing need to hear that we have their backs.
More of us. Less of them. Take a deep breath, recharge, and let’s keep going.
Sending you a big hug,
