We Need to Break Our Political Bubble. Let's Talk About How
How do we connect better with folks outside our usual circles? I'd love your ideas!
My daughter's school planned a field trip to the Oregon Capitol without realizing there would be 50501 protests the same day. It surprised me because this wasn't a sudden protest; it had been planned for weeks, and this made me realize how easy it is for us to get stuck in our own political bubbles.
I am thrilled to see activism growing everywhere. I shared with you some of the photos of the 50501 protest all over the country and how much energy they give me.
But it’s not just what’s going on with in-person protests. Other things are happening as well. For example, the Meidas Touch podcast recently outranked Joe Rogan, which is amazing. I love their work, and it's fantastic news. But honestly, how many everyday people even know about this? Probably not many.
This reminded me of a Pod Save America live event I attended during the first trmp administration with my husband. My husband, who cares about politics but isn't as involved as I am, found the discussion hard to follow. It was full of insider talk and references that regular people don’t understand.
I think this is a big issue. Everyday folks aren't disconnected because they don't care. They're overwhelmed, stressed, or just busy with daily life, and they're not following all the political podcasts and newsletters we are.
Just the other day, my orthodontist mentioned she's worried about how tariffs could impact her business because she relies heavily on materials imported from Mexico. She's not closely following political news, yet these decisions affect her directly. This shows how important it is to make political conversations accessible and relevant to people's real lives.
We have to find better, more relatable ways to reach those who aren't constantly tuned in to politics but who feel the real-world impacts of these decisions every day.
I'm asking for your input How do you think we can break through this bubble and talk to people who aren't typically engaged with political news?
Please share your ideas below. Let's tackle this together.
Truthful communication is the key to getting real answers from anyone. Listening to someone will tell you some things about them, but actions are much louder than words! Pay attention to actions!
