The Middle Class is Getting Played. Again. Here’s How Americans Feel About It.
Americans Are Worried About the New Republican Tax Plan Proposal
If you feel like the economy is working just fine for billionaires but not for you, you’re not alone. A new Navigator Research report shows that most Americans are deeply concerned about the Republican tax plan proposal and what it could mean for everyday people. Click here to read the report.
Right now, this plan has not passed, but the fact that it is even being considered has many people worried. The majority of Americans believe this proposal would give massive tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations while leaving the middle class to pick up the tab.

What Americans Are Saying About This Proposal
69% of Americans are concerned that this plan would lead to cuts in essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, and food assistance.
And they’re not crazy. This is part of their plan. I talked about it in this post:
68% worry that it would make income inequality even worse, letting the wealthy get even richer while everyday people struggle.
64% believe that Republicans are planning tax changes that disproportionately benefit the wealthy and big corporations.
What Hispanic Voters Are Saying
58% believe that Donald Trump’s policies put wealthy people first.
68% worry that Trump and Republicans will extend the existing tax cuts from 2017 that disproportionately benefitted the wealthy and big corporations. This number goes up to 70% when you ask them how concerned they are about Trump and Republican’s planning to pass new tax breaks that will benefit the wealthy and big corporations.
After an explanation of Trump and Republican’s 2017 tax plan, Hispanic opposition went up by 6 points from 43% to 49%.
This one honestly baffled me. Support for Trump and Republican’s new tax plan was at 36%. Once they got an explanation, the number went up to 42%!
Why People Are Concerned
The Republican tax proposal looks very similar to the 2017 tax cuts, which overwhelmingly benefited billionaires and large corporations. At the time, supporters claimed it would help everyone, but the reality was different.
According to Navigator Research, once people were reminded about how the 2017 tax cuts added trillions to the deficit while prioritizing corporate profits, opposition to that plan grew even stronger.
Now, Americans are looking at this new proposal and seeing the same pattern. Many worry that, if passed, it could mean fewer resources for programs that millions of people rely on, all while billionaires and major corporations get even richer.
What Happens Next?
Right now, this is just a proposal. It has not passed, but Americans are already voicing their concerns.
84% of Americans believe the Republican Party prioritizes the wealthy and big corporations over working families.
The majority of Americans believe this plan would not help small businesses or the middle class.
More than half of Americans worry that if this tax plan moves forward, they will be the ones left paying for it.
What Can We Do?
🏢 Let your representatives know how you feel. Congress is home THIS WEEK (until February 21st), so this is the perfect time to find out if your member of Congress has a town hall scheduled or if you can stop by their office.
If you’re concerned about this tax proposal, now is the time to reach out. It has not passed yet, so there is still an opportunity to stop it.
🗣️ Talk about it. Many people don’t know the details of this proposal. The more informed we are, the harder it is for lawmakers to pass policies that don’t work for most Americans.
💡 Stay engaged. This proposal is just one example of how economic policies can impact our daily lives. Watching these developments and making our voices heard is how we ensure policies work for everyone, not just the wealthiest few.
This tax plan is not a done deal, but the fact that so many Americans are concerned about it should be a wake-up call.
What do you think about all this? Let me know in the comments. 👇
You are on point about this! The republicans do not care about anyone who isn’t rich! Sad that so many poor people voted for them! Thank you for breaking this down!
Equally baffled by that 42%!
