Hope in Action: How Communities Are Leading the Way
When everything feels overwhelming, look to the people coming together to make a difference.
I know the headlines are exhausting. The national news is a constant stream of chaos, and it can feel like we’re drowning in bad news. But if you take a minute to step back, you’ll see something else happening, something powerful.
I made this video in partnership with Move On because I wanted to highlight something we don’t see enough: communities stepping up for each other.
After the fires in Los Angeles, one of my friends from high school turned her backyard into a donation center. She didn’t wait for permission or for some big organization to step in; she just started.
And then something incredible happened.
So many people showed up to donate and volunteer that they had to move operations elsewhere. Someone else donated a co-working space so they could manage everything. They had hundreds of volunteers, including 300 drivers on-call, to deliver donations to people who had lost everything.
People helping people. No waiting. No hesitation. Just action.
This is what gives me hope. While politicians argue and extremists try to roll back our rights, communities are stepping up. They’re organizing, taking care of each other, and proving that real change starts with us.
I know this administration is going to push us to our limits. I know it feels like everything is on fire (literally and figuratively). But there is always something we can do.
Maybe you start attending local council meetings.
Maybe you help get out the vote in the next election. (Psst: Let’s talk about the Wisconsin Supreme Court race happening in exactly 60 days, on April 1st, 2025.
Maybe you use your skills (whether it’s legal aid, organizing, or even just spreading the word) to support those who need it.
The point is that we don’t have to wait for someone else to fix things.
We are the ones who step up. We are the ones who make things happen.
And if we’ve learned anything from the people of California, it’s that when we come together, we are unstoppable.
👉 Watch the video and tell me: What’s one small action you’re taking to turn frustration into change?
"taking notes, tracking votes." I need that on a shirt.
